Because the focus point is the only difference between photos you often have to use a tripod to maintain the framing. You then need a photo editor to stack the photos into a single one. Why not expand the RAW capabilities of PL which is considered by many to be the best RAW Developer available by making it’s RAW functions even better. Focus stacking means photographing the same scene multiple times using identical camera settings and framing but different focus areas. panorama stitching, HDR merge, focus stacking, PSD editing and more. There is lots of other software that can do a good job on all these functions. DxO PhotoLab is an image editing program for photographers that offers AI support. If it is not feasible to do these things in RAW then I think I would prefer to see DXO’s limited funds applied to more editing features that can be done in RAW. Some of the best photo-editing software, such as Photoshop and Lightroom use lens profiles to help smooth out noise and counteract distortion created by a particular camera’s lens. Zerene Stacker or Helicon Focus which should be in a class of their own. DxO PhotoLab 4 is a powerful digital darkroom that enables you to fix a host of common photo problems quickly. Software not to mention staying in RAW as long as possible. DXO Photolab and Capture One frankly leaves Adobes Camera Raw in the dust. Would not need the huge TIFF files and having to use other IF they could be done in RAW using PL I can see some real benefit.
